Russian forces launched a large-scale overnight attack on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, killing at least five people and injuring more than 30, according to regional authorities.
Emergency crews continued search-and-rescue operations on Saturday after a residential building was hit, with officials warning that people may still be trapped under the rubble.
Civilian Infrastructure Targeted
The attack involved a combination of drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic weapons, Ukrainian officials said. Most of the damage was reported in civilian areas, including residential buildings, infrastructure, and private vehicles.
A fire that broke out at a gas station following the strike has been extinguished. Authorities confirmed that at least eight trucks and four passenger cars were destroyed.
Casualties Across Multiple Regions
Beyond Dnipro, strikes were reported in several other regions:
Officials said the total number of injured across Ukraine exceeds 30, with fatalities confirmed in multiple locations.
President Calls for Urgent Action
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the latest wave of attacks underscores the urgent need for stronger air defense support.
“Each such strike must remind our partners that the situation requires immediate and tough decisions,” he said.
Zelenskyy urged international allies to accelerate military aid, particularly air defense systems, and to move forward with additional sanctions targeting Russia’s military industry.
Rescue Efforts Continue
Rescue teams remain on site in Dnipro, working to clear debris and locate possible survivors. Authorities have not ruled out an increase in the death toll as operations continue.
Context
