Missile Horror in Sumy: russia Targets Ordinary Life on Palm Sunday

Civilians Targeted in Peaceful City During Religious Holiday

On Palm Sunday, April 13, the city of Sumy in northeastern Ukraine was struck by a devastating russian missile attack. According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, 21 civilians were killed and at least 20 more were injured.

The strike hit an ordinary residential area. It destroyed homes, damaged educational institutions, and caused fires among cars parked on the street. This brutal attack took place on a day when many families were heading to church to mark the Feast of the Lord’s Entry into Jerusalem — a peaceful religious celebration in the Christian calendar.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. In his statement, he emphasized the cruelty of the attack:

“Enemy missiles struck an ordinary city street, struck ordinary life: homes, schools, cars... And this on a day when people go to church: Palm Sunday. According to preliminary data, we are talking about dozens of civilians killed and injured.”

This is not the first time russian forces have targeted civilians and infrastructure. The attack is part of an ongoing campaign of terror that seeks to spread fear and prolong the war.

Zelenskyy called on the global community — the United States, European nations, and all partners — to respond with firm action. He reminded the world that only strong pressure on the aggressor can stop further violence.

UPD:

Revised data as of 12:20 PM:

  • 21 people have died.
  • 83 people have been injured, including 7 children. All are receiving medical assistance.
  • Emergency services continue to work at the scene.

Our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.
